Deep in the heart of a secret wood, not very far away…magical outdoor adventures await
(and a bit of risky play)!
Our aims at Wacky Woods are to provide fun, challenging but safe outdoor environments where creative play and learning can take place naturally. Our ethos is based around forest school principles of self initiated play and learning, scaffolded by the many fun woodland activities we offer.
We take children’s play very seriously here: so we support all children in their play, and if there is something specific they want to try: from whittling, to constructing, to cooking, then we will provide the support and encouragement for them to have a go, in a meaningful, fun and practical way…equipping them with some useful lifelong skills along the way…even if they don’t know they are learning!
Outdoor woodland games and bushcraft activities; from den building and camp fire cooking to nature trails and tracking games, as well as outdoor arts and crafts.
Our core activities are aimed at children between the ages of 4-11.
Wacky Woods runs a full year of woodland sessions: during school holidays and at weekends as well as after school with frequent seasonal family days and workshops so that big people can join in too.
Either morning, afternoon or all day sessions during school holidays offering Primary School aged children fun and play in a woodland environment. Camp fire lunch and toasted marshmallow help provide the energy for lots of outdoor play.
Every Tuesday is toddler day. We run forest school based sessions each week for younger children and their parents/carers/childminders. We play in the mud, the puddles, the leaves. We have lots of fun and creative learning in the woods, very much following the children’s interests.
Every Tuesday from 4pm to 6pm from February to November, we let off steam in the woods: climbing trees, playing games, whittling by the fire.
Our Outdoor and Woodland Learning Scheme is Wacky Woods with some more structured learning. We use tools, light fires, learn First Aid, have foraging raids and cook. Practical and environmental skills, balanced with some nature play.
Saturday afternoons sees us riding and building trails both cross country and down hill with our in house instructor. Suitable for beginners and intermediate riders over the age of 8, with parent riders too.
From toddlers to teens, Wacky Woods Birthday Parties are something different and are available all year round, providing lots of fun with a camp-fire meal and toasted marshmallows
From 6.00pm onwards, any evening by arrangement from March to November and at weekends.
Wacky Woods is ideal for youth groups: scouting, guiding, church youth groups of any age. Cost is dependent upon group size and the activities, but are discounted as we wish to make Wacky Woods as accessible as possible for groups.
